The first and broadest sense of art is the one that has remained closest to the older Latin word “tecnicus” meaning, which roughly translates to “skill”, “craft” or “technique”. Whereas the Greek word τέχνη “techně” is often mistranslated as “art,” but actually implies mastery of any sort of craft.      

Artistic form may be referred to as a holistic all embracing one and the impact it might or might not have on the psyche of the instigator or the onlooker.

Imagine Imagination – The informal products…

Form can refer to the visible elements of a piece of work, independent of their meaning. When one looks at a particular image the formal elements contained within it are made up of colour, dimension, lines, mass, shape, etc., while the feelings of mystery and intrigue the piece evokes are informal products of the onlooker’s imagination.

There is, both, a diverse spread of human activities and outcomes related to creating artistic form within the visual arts making them difficult at times to comprehend. Bubble! Bubble! – The birthing process…

Humans possess complex personal needs, fears or basic intellect and they appeared increasingly with the creation of marks or symbols in the ground, or  moulded and created  on one’s body or in ones hands; in colour on rock, wood or in the form of sculpture. Whether it was flat, two dimensional or a three-dimensional rendition. This was the birth of “Art”  at its most basic and primeval level within the context of the real world and viewed as a general concept.

“In the beginning was the word…..”that unspecified flash of inspiration when humans invented depicting images or perchance it was imagery that invented humans?  The transient moment in the history of “humankind”  of making a connection with “himself or herself”, emerging phoenix like away from artistic imagery’s original purpose of tool making, when the contingent occurrence or urge to recreate that which one had observed in one’s environment.
