Spotlight Art – Chemmeen (The Prawn) – Painting of the day by Thomas M Ouseph

The image depicts a painting titled Chemmeen the Love Tragedy by the artist Thomas M Ouseph. The work is divided into four sections and is a figurative semi-abstract that in the foreground shows side on the head and shoulder of a woman looking to the right of frame and in the middle distance stands a man front view looking out towards the viewer. In the background can be viewed palm trees and beyond that lies the blue ocean. The painting is an interpretation of the 1965 Chemmeen ( 'The Prawn') Indian Malayalam-language trgic romance film, based on the novel of the same name by Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai.

Spotlight Art – September Sunrise – Painting of the day by Ernie Komarek

The image depicts a painting titled September Sunrise by the artist Ernie Komarek. The work is a landscape painting of a lake in the centre of the composition edged with rising aspen trees. Behind the trees a series of rolling hills rise bathed in the glow of September's sunrise. In the foreground are found a row brown leafed bushes that stand in front of the lake. To the right behind a small boulder a white barked tree rises with its branches and leaves creating a canopy that covers the top righthand quarter of the image. The gold and orange colours of the foliage are illuminated and the morning fog lifts as the sun rises over the still waters of the mountain lake.

Spotlight Art – Anthology of Poetry – A Book Cover Design by Goff James

The image depicts a design for the front cover of an anthology of poetry. The background is made uu of a variety of black, red and white rectangles on which is superimposed an illustration composed of a gold disc beneath which are the black outlines of two large palm leaves.

Over the last few months I have started working on producing a collection of my haiku and senryū poems which I am hoping to publish.

Here is a taster.

I have also commenced working on some designs for the front cover. I have several titles under consideration.

The design above is one of my first ideas.

It is very much work in progress.

Spotlight Art – Set’s Betrayal of Osiris – Painting of the day by David Edward Johnson

The image depicts an abstract painting by the artist David Edward Johnson titled Set's Betrayal of Osiris.The Osiris myths were a defining set of stories of ancient Egyptian belief. Shot through with themes of jealousy, murder, resurrection and birth, they encompass so much of the human experience but set it in the divine. The artist with his use of blue, red and yellow hues and large splash of white paint to the bottom of the frame captures the essence of such stories in this work through exploring the connections between human and divine qualities, experience and the strength of belief and its ephemeral nature.
