What is emojiku?

The emojiku came about by Cindy Georgakas and Goff playing emoji tennis in the WP comments box. It was a natural step to take it one stage further and develop from being just a fleeting form of discourse into something more poetically constructive.

An emojiku is a hybrid poetic form, and is similar in format to a haiku / senryū or haiga. However there are no strict restrictive set rules. The format is open and fluid.

In the case of an emojiku the source image is an emoji. The emojiku is made up of at least three different emoji. Each emoji being the inspiration for one line of the short poem.

The process of creating an emojiku begins by a blogger sending three different emoji to a fellow blogger.

The second blogger responds by writing their emojiku and forwarding it back to the original blogger; who, in turn responds by writing a counterpoint emojiku using the same emoji images.

Join in the emojiku fun and share

    • Thanks for letting me know, Cindy! I didn’t get a ping (I think folks need to link an actual post and not the blog)
But this has brought a huge smile to be featured with you in this post!

      • Hi. I am not certain if you have received this, so I am sending again . I’ve read the comments. Have I made a great blogging mess up regarding post of June 4, 2022? I have spent the morning checking e-mails and one has the heading ‘Emojiku from Yvette at Priorhouse blog’. Now I have triple checked and see the emojiku in the e-mai itself is priorhouse. blog. Since there was no name and the heading read Yvette. I used the name to go with the blog. I have now changed the title of the post and tags editing out Yvette’s name. I hope that the post is now correctly attributed. I hope this clarifies the circumstances surrounding the post’s publication. My sincere apologies to you and the writer at priorhouse blog and Yvette(?). If you would like the edited post be pulled pulled I will do so. Please advise.

      • I found it easily and so awesome to feel included in that, Cindy!
Thanks for making it happen and also – I clarified with Goff what I meant by using a post to link so the blogger gets a notification —
        Hope it came out okay!

        🙏grateful for blog friends

      • Oh Goff! No editing was needed at all!!
I only mentioned that I did not get a WordPress ping back on this post (to alert me it was published) and if you want to send someone a ping – you can link to their post and they will be notified
But everything was perfect and I could care less about credit and all that – Any emoji poems I write will be free in public domain – hahaha

And this was fun by the way! Ou and Cindy have such good chemistry – but then you are both also inclusive and want to get the emoji-poetry party rolling !
Both seem to a e generous hospitality

      • Thanks. I was truly confused . But it is important that correct attribution is given. All sorted now and clear. Now I have to confess, at my age, I am no techno whiz kid. Ping backs appear to be beyond me. I have tried and failed miserably. I find just getting the posts in place a challenge. Happy Blogging.

      • Well
Pings are super easy and might sound more techy than they are –
And you might want to use them if you are including other bloggers in posts because then they will also have a little ping on their blog and others who read their blog can join in –
But even if it is just to let the blogger know it is worth the die seconds it takes to link a post.

        Here is how
Go to the bloggers blog and click on the post you want to link
        Copy the full URL
        Then in your post –
2)Highlight the name of the blogger or the word/sentence that mentions them –
        3) while that is highlighted – go to the menu bar and click on the little link icon –
Clicking it will open a box and that is when you
        4) paste the link you copied
        Then hit save
        Super easy
And when you publish the post – that blog post will be sent a message asking to approve the link….

        Takes a few seconds
