Spotlight Poetry – Autumn – A poem by Amy Lowell

The image depicts a painting titled Foliages in purple, blue, pink, mauve and violet by the artist Fabienne Monestier, . The work is a semi-abstract expressionist atmospheric painting that captures the romantic beauty of nature's autumnal foliage with its flowing natural forms. The soft colour palette used is made up of various purple, blue, indigo, pink, mauve, violet, blue violet hues. The foliage acts as purely decorative ornamentation across the whole composition. The spraying on of paints creates a blurring effect within the artwork. The backlighting infuses the work with a surreal dreamlike quality.

Autumn by Amy Lowell

All day I have watched the purple vine leaves
Fall into the water.

And now in the moonlight they still fall,
But each leaf is fringed with silver.
